Today I appeared on the BBC Politics South show (recorded on 24 May 2024). I discussed how our plan to take bold action to secure the long term future of the NHS by improving efficiencies, will help reduce waste and maximise the access to care for both the people of Southampton Itchen and the country as a whole.
I also discussed the cost of living crisis. The main cause is global conflicts affecting energy prices and high inflation. I mentioned that the government has succeeded on the first of the prime ministers five pledges. Not only has inflation fallen from 11% to 2.3%, but the government has also made interventions, such as the energy price cap, which are designed to cut costs for everyone in the country.
I also supported the governments idea that encouraging people of working age to seek work, will lead to increased levels of productivity for the country. The additional taxes we raise from more people working can and should be used to fund the high quality public services that we deserve.
