Today I congratulated Southampton Football Club on their promotion back to the Premier League with their 1-0 win over Leeds at Wembley Stadium.
“Hello good afternoon. I’m Sidney Yankson, the Parliamentary Candidate for Southampton Itchen. As many of you know in my twenties I used to play a lot of football with a lot of former professional players.
In 1994 in particular we played 18 matches and won 18 matches. We actually got promoted from the championship up to the premier league.
Today I’m saying well done to Southampton Football Club who have got promoted from the championship to the premier league and that analogy is exactly what I plan to do if I’m elected, to help the city of Southampton up their game on all aspects.
Clearly we want to protect the green spaces and the waterfront, but we also want to bring the waterfront back to residents. Well done again to Southampton Football Club, and I look forward to meeting you all on the campaign trail. Many thanks.”
