I want to highlight transport issues in Southampton.
"I'm here today to talk about the price hike on the toll bridge. What I'm hearing from residents on the doorstep, is that the price increase is not something they want to pay in this time of austerity and cost cutting. I'm also here to object against the eight week closure of the Itchen Bridge that has been tabled for the Summer. The reason I'm doing that is because I like all the other residents of Southampton need to make sure that we can get about this city. Whether I'm going to a doctors appointment; whether I'm going to university; whether I'm going about my business, we need to have Southampton open. Closing the Itchen bridge down is going to lead to huge congestion. What I'm suggesting is that we stagger the closure so the works can be done, but we can keep Southampton running. Keep Southampton moving, because transport infrastructure is absolutely crucial to getting this city back to where it needs to be. Thank you very much. I look forward to meeting you all and hearing from you on the doorstep."
