Yesterday I visited Ocean Village to listen to residents and business owners and find out how I can do more to serve them. Keeping residents safe and preventing shoplifting were two of the key themes that I was told about on the doorstep. Being accountable to residents, providing good value for money public services and reporting back to residents are my key values. Thank you to everyone that shared your experiences with me today.
“Good afternoon. My name is Sidney Yankson. I’m the Parliamentary Candidate for Southampton Itchen. I’m here on a beautiful bank holiday Saturday, the 4th May, a couple of days after a fantastic result for our local council candidates. We retained two Conservative wards and gained Woolston from Labour, which is a fantastic result and gives us great hope for all of the hard work that the team have put in over the last four months since I was selected.
I’m here in Ocean Village today meeting residents as I always do. I’ve heard from residents about how the council has let them down on public services, which has led to underground flooding. Some residents have had twenty two cars damaged because of the water ingress under their building. I’ve asked them to send me all of those details. I look forward to working with the council to make sure that can be prevented from ever happening again, and the residents who’s property has been damaged can get some form of compensation.
Please do keep coming up to me when you see me on the doorstep. I have to listen to you. My role is to represent you, and I look forward to meeting you all over the coming weeks and months. Many thanks.”
If you have suffered from property damage caused by flooding, I would like to hear from you.
Please get in touch with my office.
